1. Which word should I use and what is the reason for using one preposition instead of the other?

2. Is 'ever' correct in the sentence or should it be deleted?

These are the worst cakes I've ever tasted.

The above question is from an exercise from a local English workbook. The relative pronoun used is 'that'. I was wondering whether 'which' fits as well.

Now it would appear that the book is wrong in asking a relative pronoun be used in the sentence, since it should not be used at all.

No. 'That' is acceptable, though commonly omitted (unless it is the subject of the relative clause. .Which' is not commonly used.
