Hi All,

Can some one help me with short vowel sound vocabs? Eg: I went through a free website for listening skill on phonic activities and Short Vowel A has - Apple, Bed, Cup Ant and so on... Now my confusion is - in Bed the e is a short A sound or a short e sound as in Elephant!!!

Help me and if you can suggest some free websites that will help me use phonic listening activities

Many Thanks

Daniel

The 'e' in bed is the same as the first 'e' in elephant, which is nothing like the vowel sound in apple or ant. Cup is something else again.

I'm not familiar enough with any websites that deal with this to recommend them, but I'm sure a quick Internet search will produce results.

It doesn't have exercises, but Forvo is a good free pronunciation website. Choose English from the list of languages, then type any word you want to listen to and, if there are any recordings, you will be shown a list of all available recordings to listen to. Concentrate, to start with, on recordings made by native speakers.
