Can anyone please explain the meaning of below sentense

Shining in the shades in sun like a pearl upon the ocean.

It's not a well-constructed sentence, so any suggested meaning would be tentative.
Problems are:
- "in the shades" possibly should be "in the shade".
- Generally, something can't be both in the sun and in the shade at the same time.
- It's not a sentence, since there's no finite verb.
- Do pearls float upon the ocean? If not, the simile is hard to imagine.

So, what do you think it means?
