I read the sentence on the web page above.

I’d like to know if I could rewrite it like this:

She walked out the door, and her head turned for a last look at home.
 
Why do want to rewrite a perfectly good sentence? Are you trying to understand something about the meaning? Or the structure? Please tell us what you're trying to do.

It seems to me your time would be better spent focusing on how these rather literary participle phrases are used.
 
Like any other language, there’s often more than one way to express the same meaning although actually they are not totally the same. What I want to know is the other ways to say the original sentence in #1. So when my students ask me the similar questions, I could give them some satisfactory replies.
