Is it correct to say overhead lamp shone in someone's eyes?

Is this okay?

She lay on the car's backseat, barely conscious. In her mind, she hovered in a black space until she felt a harsh light shine in her closed eyes. Johnny had turned on the overhead lamp to read the map. He noticed Nicole stir. He immediately turned off the lamp.

In the UK at least, it's called the overhead light, not the overhead lamp. I don't think you can shine a light in someone's closed eyes. The light shone on her eyelids.
