Is this correct and natural?

She found him more and more difficult to deal with. He floated back and forth between completely indifferent and outrageously aggressive. He would sometimes sit in front of the television, staring vacantly into it. Just a few minutes after that, he could erupt like a volcano, burning everything in its midst. He once had a tantrum and grabbed the velvet drapes and ripped them off and threw them out the window.

He once had a tantrum and grabbed the velvet drapes, [STRIKE]and[/STRIKE] ripped them down, and threw them out the window.
Now it is! (Although telling is what the drapes were made of sort of slows down the action.)
 
Is that what you call a temperamental person?
