Setting off/Triggering/activating the motion sensor lights

I'm trying to write something:

He walks up to the house, setting off/triggering/activating the motion sensor lights.

(the motion sensor lights outside the house turn on)

Could you think of a more natural choice than one of my suggestions for this context? If not, which one of them do you prefer?
 
I think "setting off" works well, better than the other two.

"Triggering" and "setting off" both sound natural to me.
