For human development in all fields, it created a context of seldom-equaled fertility.

I don't know the meaning of that bold section. Would you please help me?

Thanks!

What does 'it' refer to?

The passage is a bit long. Let me post it if you want:

Despite its weaknesses and inner conflicts, the humanistic movement was heroic in its scope and energy, and exceptional in its aspirations. For human development in all fields, it created a context of seldom-equaled fertility. Its characteristic modalities of thought, speech, and vision lent themselves to induce the genius of humankind and became the media for enduring achievement.

If we take 'fertility' to mean 'ability to undergo growth and development' (Collins) it means that the humanistic movement was only rarely matched in that ability by other movements.
