In this sentence what does scoping hallway mean?

I was so lost in thought that I wasn’t scoping the hallway.

Did the speaker forget that he's in hallway because of thinking?

Thanks.

No, not quite.
Here "scoping" is the intransitive verb "to scope".
It's very informal and it means to look at carefully; to scan.
Example: they watched him scoping the room, looking for Michael.

In your sentence, the speaker was so engrossed in thought that he forgot he was to closely observe the hallway.

John

All right I got it, thank you very much :D
