We also often hear from our members that Waking Up explains the underlying logic of mindfulness—the “why” of practice—in ways that they never encountered anywhere else. And many who have meditated for decades, and even sat multiple silent retreats, tell us that Waking Up has totally transformed their practice.

What does "sat multiple silent retreats" mean? Retreat here seems to mean "a period of group withdrawal for prayer, meditation, study, or instruction under a director". So I guess that "sat multiple silent retreats" mean "had several such periods". Am I right?

A silent retreat is (usually) a group event in which people come together for a day, a few days, a week perhaps, and remain in complete silence throughout. It's usually associated with meditation (secular) or prayer (religious). A long period of silence, particularly in the company of others, alongside mediation sessions, is supposed to be of great help in terms of self-improvement and such like. The piece is simply saying that some people who have taken part in many such retreats have found that Waking Up has had a beneficial effect on their mindfulness practice.
