Dear friends:

I have a question for English native speakers.

I have a set of cards on the table, all of them front side up, back side down.
I want to rearrange them so that the back side is up, and the front side is down.

What would be the best to describe the action:

1. reverse the cards
2. flip the cards
3. turn the cards
4. turn the cards over
5. your suggestion?

Is there the same meaning? What would be the best verb to use?

Thank you!

Welcome to the forum. :hi:

I'd use "turn them over". "Flip them [over]" also works. I wouldn't use "reverse" as that could, theoretically, mean keep them with the same side showing but reverse the order of them.

By the way:
Is there the same meaning? :cross:
Do they mean the same? :tick:
Do they have the same meaning? :tick:

Thank you! Sorry, I forgot to add that the cards are actually flash cards for learning. Will it make a difference?

No, that doesn't make a difference.

2, 3, or 4 would work for me, with no difference in meaning.

Also asked here.

We recommend posting a question on one forum only initially. If you do not get a satisfactory answer from that forum and you feel that you have exhausted its possibilities, then of course trying a different forum might help. It is only courteous however, to tell the second forum that you have already asked the question on another forum and then give a precis of the answers you received there, or provide a link to it, along with an explanation of why you are now looking elsewhere.
