Are (a) and (b) correct, or only one of them?

(a) The helper's negligence resulted in the young child falling from the chair.

(b) The helper's negligence resulted in the young child's fall from the chair.
 
They're both correct.
 
Regardless of the grammaticality of the sentences, I'd suggest to you that version (a) is the one you want.
