How do we interpret this sentence?

"He's taking a sandwich to eat after the movie"

a) He's taking a sandwich that he can/will eat after the movie

b)
He's taking a sandwich in order to eat after the movie
 
Either interpretation is possible, depending on the context of the conversation and how the sentence is pronounced.
