Hello teachers,

Can you distinguish between "relating to" and "related to"? In following sentence, should I use "relating to" or "related to"?
"The research recorded 12 types of mistakes relating to plagiarism, format, inadequate understanding of the subject....".

Thank you very much.

Jenny

I would use "related to". But I don't understand how "plagiarism" can be called a mistake.

So, what should plagiarism be? Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!

Plagiarism is knowingly copying the material of another and then passing it off as one's own.

It wouldn't be a mistake with the material, it would be a mistake in judgement.

Or, more likely, dishonesty.

With the help of reviewers, a writer can improve his writing and correct writing mistakes e.g. Grammatical accuracy, Use of inappropriate vocabulary, Use of inappropriate grammatical structures, cohesion, Use of inappropriate vocabulary... and plagiarism, too. I want to name the group of these writing problems. So, what should be the right word for that? Can I use "mistake correction", "writing improvement"...or can you give me some suggestions? Thank you!

Again, for me, "plagiarism" is a separate issue. I would put it in a separate sentence.
