[Grammar] Regardless of wherever

Is my sentence below correct? I am unsure.

- Regardless of wherever Chad goes, he always ensure his mother knows his whereabouts.

I don't understand why I cannot use 'wherever' as in "Regardless of wherever..."

I think it is because the combination of "regardless" and "wherever" sounds redundant. Each signifies exclusion, so you don't need both of them.

I don't think it would be wrong to use it, but it is unnecessary and does sound odd.
