1.
[/FONT]She never mentioned him again. She refused to speak of him ever again, for the rest of her life."

2. She never referred to him again. She refused to speak of him ever again, for the rest of her life."
 
Can you see any difference between "mention" "and "refer" in [STRIKE]this[/STRIKE] these examples? I think [STRIKE]which carry[/STRIKE] they provide enough context. Do they exactly mean the same here?
No, they are not exactly the same. Mentioning someone is referring to them directly, e.g. by name. Referring to someone need not be direct.
