Rover_KE, I agree that "recommended " could be the right word, but it would not be correct if the friend just told you about the job, but didn't recommend you to the company. For example, the friend might work in a junior position at a company, or know about a company that is hiring workers. Or an employment agency might refer/introduce you to a job without recommending you.

I would say "refer".
"It was my friend who referred me to this job". In this context, "referred me to this job" means that he informed you about the job opening (e.g. he sent you the internet link).

"Introduced me to this job" is a bit more detailed. It sounds like he was already working at the company. When you got your job, he showed you around, taught you how to perform certain tasks, etc.
