Re: Implication of "I am t0tally c00l3r than 7u n00bs"

First, I got it as : I am totally cooler than you noobs/newbies."

Second, I guess that the way it is written reflects a taste of locally intimate relationship: I am one of you folks.

But only a guess. You opinions will be appreciated.

Context:

A simple, undefined reply when an ignorant comment or action is made. Brought to life in the South Park series, when Mr. Derp made a guest apperance at South Park Elementary as the chef for a day, followed by hitting himself in the head with a hammer and exclaiming "Derp!"
I am t0tally c00l3r than 7u n00bs.

Derp.

It means nothing at all to me.

Personally if I saw someone writing that, I'd assume (correctly or not) that they were:

- teenage or younger (in mental age if not physical)
- ill-educated
- probably male (and yes I know that's sexist of me)
- deeply uncool and slightly insecure about that fact.

Re: Implication of "I am t0tally c00l3r than 7u n00bs"

It is a code which exists among computer gamers, particularly in North America; it is called 'elite speak' or 'leet speak' or, again, in code, 733t. The implication is that elite players, who associate themselves with the huge expertise of hackers or 'h4x0rs,' are knowledgeable enough to get around the in-game censorship existing in many multi player games online, where calling someone a 'noob' or claiming to be 'leet' have long been forbidden. Not such an impressive feat, really, just substituting 7s for Ls, 3s for Es, and a few other abbreviations.

So yes, your guess is a correct interpretation of the code.

It can get much more abstract than that. However, even at it's most extreme, it is not a great achievement, but it can be an anti language.
