"Bad driving habits make automobiles the most dangerous means of transport."

is there something wrong with this sentence? I'm writing an essay and my friend told me that I cant use "make" here and should use "cause" instead and reconstruct my sentence.

thank you in advance...

Welcome to the forum. :hi:

Your sentence is correct. Please note my amendments in red. It's important to use correct punctuation and capitalisation in written English.

It's fine. To use cause, it would have to say something like: "Bad habits cause automobiles to be the most dangerous means of transport."

Your way is better.

You're welcome!

Charlie

Thank you for your replies. I'm taking an advanced writing course and actually it was my instructor who told me my sentence is not correct :-?. Talk about inadequate professors.

Is your teacher a native English speaker?

No, she's Arab (Lebanese).

It would have been helpful if you had said in your first "My teacher/instructor (a non-native speaker) told me ...", rather than "My friend told me ...".

Sorry but I don't want the answers to be biased. I know all of you will always try to be as honest and helpful as possible and wont intentionally alter your answers but it all happens subconsciously.

Do you think we would alter our answers if we thought we were contradicting a non-native teacher?

No not me, psychology. She's non-native but sill holds a PhD in English literature. You'll answers will be at least just a little bit biased.
but I don't mean to undermine you or anyone here at the forums. I trust you or otherwise I wouldn't come here for answers. I just thought it would be better If I didn't mention that information. I will be more honest next time.
