I am aware that "Promise that" is probably the best option to use,however, I would like to know if "Promise to" may also be acceptable grammatically.

Here are some examples...
"I promised to take the dog out for a walk today."
"I promised to speak to her about it later."

What are your thoughts?

The phrase "promise(d) to" is quite natural.
 
How did you become aware that "Promise that" is the best option?
