Dear teachers,

For general sense, I would say
1. I fear to walk alone at night.
and it will do.

However, in my grammar book, it states :

2. I fear to be walking alone at night.

I know it is progressive to-infinitive, but I do not know what it wants to highlight.

Does it mean that it wants to highlight the walking duration rather than the action expressed by "walk" ?

Please elucidate the difference to me.

I am much obliged to you for your guidance.

Thanks:)

Neither is very natural, most native speakers would say "I fear walking alone at night" or even more likely "I am afraid of walking alone at night".
