Hello.

Can I use "population" with "explosion"?

Is this sentence correct and natural?

I believe the population explosion in our mega cities should be controlled.

By that I mean we should stop the unconstrained increase in the population of big cities.

If that doesn't work, how can I express that idea?

"Population explosion" is a common collocation so it's absolutely fine. I'm not so sure about using "controlled" with it. Surely we want to stop the population explosion and then perhaps control population growth.

Is this okay?

I believe the population explosion in our mega cities should be stopped. To achieve that, we should discourage people from moving to big cities.

That language is fine.
