Yes, as long as you're sure the person you're saying it to knows what SMS means.

I'd say 'Please text me....'

I've found that my European colleagues use "SMS" where we would just say "text."

That's interesting. I thought that 'SMS' was the American version. I only 'text'.
 
I've never heard anyone in America use the term. Maybe someone explaining the features of a new cell phone ("It does both SMS and MMS messaging.")
