[Grammar] please! help me fix error in this following sentence ( it is a part in my introduce)

thank Admin. i'd like ask you that: in this sentence " I have joined this forum hoping that I can enhance my skills" why do you use "hoping" don't use "hope", can you explain it , please . thank you
