Dear Teachers

As a non-native, I have trouble using article in the below sentence in the eyes of English native audience (if further changes are needed, please advise)

1) Without a partnership between index provider and ETF sponsor, index would remain theoretical concept and calculation exercise, not viable investment vehicle.

2) Without a partnership between index providers and ETF sponsors, index investing would remain a theoretical concept and calculation exercise, not a viable investment vehicle.

Please advise.

NOT A TEACHER

Here are my suggestions.

Without a partnership between an/the index provider and an/the ETF sponsor, an/the index would remain a theoretical concept and a calculation exercise, not a viable investment vehicle.

More context would be needed to determine whether a definite or indefinite article is needed.
