Hi teachers,
Is it better to use 'poorly' than 'badly' at the end of the sentence? If yes, could you tell me why?
As usual, she is playing very well and he is playing poorly.

Thanks in advance.

Poorly or badly are equally correct. I would prefer poorly as a slightly more careful usage, but I won't argue the matter strongly.

Thank you for this reply too.

My grandfather always argued that "good/bad" should become "well/poorly" when used as adverbs.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. We shouldn't argue with grandparents, should we? They are always right.;-)

We shouldn't argue with them, but we can still use badly as well if we want. ;-)
