Maybe, this is not the best place to ask this question, but what is the difference between 'phonetics' and 'phonology'?

e.g. the phonology of English, the phonetics of English

You are right. The Pronunciation and Phonetics forum would have been a more appropriate place. Perhaps a Moderator can transfer us.

Basically, Phonetics is the science of the physical nature of the speech organs, and their actions and movement, the properties of the sound waves which carry speech,and the physical nature of the organs that receive and interpret speech

Phonology is the system of sounds in any one language. With English, this mainly concerns Vowels, Consonants, Word and Sentence Stress, Intonation, Assimilation, Elision, Juncture, Linking, etc

Most English teachers work with some understanding of aspects of the phonology of English. Few of us have an in-depth understanding of the phonetics.
