Phonetic (spoken) syllables for the word "happen"

... in the word "
happen" the spelling includes two ps, and the orthographic syllabification is
hap.pen. But the pronunciation has only a single p , and the syllables are ˈhæp and [SUP]ə[/SUP]n.

But I would prefer ˈhæ and p[SUP]ə[/SUP]n (i.e. ha.ppen) for its phonetic (spoken) syllables.

Is my personal preference acceptable?
 
Roach et al in the English Pronouncing Dictionary (16th edition, 2003) make the same syllable division as Wells. I think I'll stick with the experts' decision.
