Would you please correct the mistakes in these sentences?

Peter never trusted politicians. He saw them rather as crooks interested only in lining their own pockets than honest people wanting to help ordinary citizens. On those rare occasions when he met a local politician, he had an impression to talk to a trickster who would cheat him if he only got a chance. Peter hated the way they spoke, dodging the questions and giving ambiguous answers. They were sleeker than snakes and craftier than foxes. Whenever during the general elections he walked by political banners and posters, he had to fight a desire to pull them down. He had never voted and would not unless the whole society changed and people started thinking instead of following the leader and his cohorts like sheep.

How about a comma after crooks?

Very good writing. I made a few small changes for grammar. I would recommend one additional change for clarity: "During the general elections, whenever he walked..."

Overall, I think you write very well. Keep it up!

Perhaps:

He saw them as crooks interested only in lining their own pickets and not as honest people willing to help ordinary citizens.
