Back then, I performed in a small concert/held small concertswith my friends several times. I couldn't play like a professional, so we usually played popular rock music. The music of well-known bands such as Metallica, RATM, Mr.Big, Led Zeppelin and Skidrow was our main songs.

Please let me know if the underlined parts are correct.

1. I performed in concerts.
2. the music was the theme of our songs

Yes, you can.

As "several times" can be tautological with "small concerts", wouldn't it be better to say "a small concert"?

I don't know what you mean by that. I suggest that you drop that idea (whatever it is).

wouldn't it be better to say "a small concert"?

No.

I performed in small concerts with my friends several times.

I performed in a small concert with my friends several times.

No.

I don't know why you want to replace a perfectly good sentence with one that's not so good.
:-(

At least you are finally heeding my advice.

I suggest that you work on the things you need to work on.

:x-mas:

I've played drums since I was a freshman in university.

That's OK. (Forget about the extra punctuation.)

Next:

Back then I performed in small concerts with my friends several times.

Next:

I couldn't play like a professional, so we usually played popular rock music.

Finally:

We played songs from Metallica, RATM, Mr. Big, Led Zeppelin, , Skidrow, and other well-known bands.

Finished!

I'd say gave small concerts rather than held.
