I was wondering about what part of speech "th" is? As in "the 25th of March" for example.
And is "25" in "the 25th" an ordinal number?
 
Twenty-fifth is an ordinal number. It can be abbreviated 25th. The "th" is part of the abbreviation, not a word in itself.
 
Wow, thank you so much! That's why I couldn't make any sense of it. But that makes perfect sense!
