opinion vs opinions

How is 'opinion' different from 'opinions'?For eg:

Eg 1:
'What is your opinion on the new government policy?' or can you also say 'what are your opinions on the new government policy?'

Eg 2:
'What are your opinions on the policy of the government and the financial strength of company A?' - Is this correct? Can i use 'opinion' instead?

One is singular and one is plural. That's the difference.

You would use "opinion" if you expect a single, clear opinion as an answer.

You would use "opinions" if you expect a variety of answers from a person.

Using the singular form would be more normal.

I'd just like to add that in your second example, you could be asking for an opinion about each part of the question so the plural form is acceptable here. Of course, the subject under discussion could be seen as a single subject and the singular form could be used.
