I am not sure which preposition should be used with the word election. Would you please correct my mistakes.
For example:

1. Vote for me on the next election. or
2. Vote for me at the next election.
3. On the latest election the Conservatives have got the majority.

Only #2 is correct.

Would my sentence Nr 3 be correct if I write it like this?

At the latest election the Conservatives got the majority.

I'd say "in the next election."

The U.S. preposition, as said above, would be "in."

I would not have known this was another example of regional variation.

Would you use that in both 2 and 3?
In BrE, I would use "at" in 2 and "in" in 3.

I'd use in in both. For #3, I'd write In the latest election, the Conservatives got the majority.

There's a typo in your original post, Bassim. Can you spot it?;-)

kilroy65.

Thank you for telling me about my mistake. Now I have corrected it. It should have been "preposition."
