"On a Single Receipt" + "In a Single Receipt"

Well, greetings to everyone. =)

Just wanted to ask something that's been bugging me for a while. I was writing a copy for a client when I chanced upon the line "Spend $50 on a single receipt". Now, is it "Spend $50 on a single receipt" or should it be "...in a single receipt"?

I've come to understand that if it's values, it should be "in a single receipt" while items are "on a single receipt"? Is there an English rule or perhaps some guide to this?

I suppose if the shop is offering some kind of discount, then they would use the wording you mentioned.

E.g. If you spend over $50 on a single receipt then we will give you 10% off your total spend.
Meaning in one transaction, so it would then be on one (a single) receipt.
