Apple explains on 11.6 as on November 6th. Is the form of "11.6" an invention by Apple? Is it ever used by others in English world?

It would traditionally be written in the US as 11/6, but some people use the "." instead of the "/" now. It's not an Apple invention.

Apple might have invented a lot of things but a new way to write dates isn't one of them.
