Please let me know which one is the correct sentence grammatically from the below mentioned:

Number of attempts has been made.
OR
Number of attempts have been made.

A number of (= several) attempts have been made.

or we can use,

A number of attempts have been made. Yes - that's why I wrote it, and emphasised the indefinite article.

or we can use,

Number of attempts have been made. No
