I wonder why there is not "in" after "than". This is to say:

Nowhere is this urgency more apparent than in the current global pandemic ....

I found another example, which also doesn't include "in":

If you are extremely rich, you could stay nowhere better than the Ruislip Court Hotel.

In both examples, you're right, in would fit. It's understood, so there's no need to say it.
 
Missing prepositions after than are a pet peeve of mine. They don't impede understanding, though, so I'll refrain from sending a strongly-worded letter to the Times.
