not know one’s arse from one’s elbow = I don’t know a thing , I haven’t the faintest idea of, doesn'tknow chalk from cheese, doesn't know B from a battledore

By the way, in order to avoid offending the tender-hearted, it's probably better to write arse as a**e in the subject line of your thread.
