For English teachers only:

When referring to tenses do you prefer the term progressive or continuous?

I wanted to start a poll about this but couldn't figure out how. Can you help @Red5?

I use, and teach, the term 'continuous' and so do almost all other teachers in my field in English speaking countries. This is because this is the preferred term currently used on teacher training courses and in all of the major coursebooks. I'd say the term 'progressive' is favoured more by academics than ELT professionals.

Do you have a particular reason for asking?

I have used 'progressive' for years except in my writing. Then I use 'durative'.

Incidentally, I consider these forms 'aspects', not 'tenses'.
