My elder sister, Eve, is hardworking.

Are the commas optional?

Thanks.

You will see people write the sentence without the commas. Traditionally, commas would be used.

@kohyoongliat - Please note that I have improved your thread title. Please use some/all of the words/phrases/sentences you are asking us about. Your actual question (in your case "Are the commas optional?") should appear only in the main body of the post, not in the title.

Context dictates the choice. If the speaker has only one elder sister, the commas are correct. If the speaker has more than one elder sister, the commas are incorrect.
