My daughter was six years old at that time. I was hoping to have a baby boy back then but my dream was not realised/fulfilled.

Which word in bold should I use? If neither is correct, what word /s should I use?

Thanks in advance.

How about wish instead of dream?

Thanks, Tdol.

I agree with you that 'wish' is the better word.

'Dream' sounds fine to me.

but my dream was not realised/fulfilled.

If I replace the part above with "but that would not happen.", does it sound more natural?

I think that dream and wish are both fine. I also feel that realized and fulfilled are both fine.

How about 'I was hoping to have a baby boy back then but my dream didn't come true'?

Both words are good.
