Hey everyone ! I just wanted to know the meaning of the phrase "cast into shadow". The context is here -
"Curls muss his nearly black hair and cast his face into shadow."
The time here is night. But I guess that's irrelevant. Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

"Curls muss his nearly black hair and cast his face into shadow."

His messy curls cause a shadow to fall across his face.

I don't think so, considering it's night. Maybe it means that messy curly hair cast over his face into the the shadow of night. I don't know. You say.

You said in your first post that the fact that it was night was not relevant. Now you're objecting to a reasonable interpretation on the grounds that it's night time.
Anyhow, "shadow" might be used metaphorically. His curls overshadow his facial features in some way.

One can have shadows at night if there is a light on.
