Good day all,

Which one of the following is correct:

May I ask what do you do for a living?

or

May I ask what you do for a living?

Or are they both wrong?

Thanks

So it is correct grammatically, but is it the best way to say it?

should I have said, for instance, "If I may ask, what do you do for a living?"

<<<Am I making a fuss over this? :-D

Thanks

It is both grammatical and the normal way of asking. Your alternative is also grammatical, but pedantic.

You are not making a fuss, but do not get into a fuss about it! ;-)

Thanks Anglika... I won... I am going to print your reply and staple it to my friend's forehead... He said that my question, the second one, was worng!
:-?
