I think you can omit "for" if you want to.I I found some sentences used “for” WITH “advocate”. I don’t know when I should add “for”.
For example:
1. Those who advocate for doctor-assisted suicide say the terminally ill should not have to suffer.
Is “for” optional in the above sentences?
2. Extremists were openly advocating violence.
Can I say “advocating for violence”?
