Hi,

Is there any idiom to refer to a situation when Sb helps Sb marry? Say, one is not that willing to, or hasn't got to think of getting married yet, and their parents, or a friend of them decide to do Sth for them. (to give you a clue I'm giving you what we use in Persian...maybe it helps me get my idea across...:"To roll up your sleeves for Sb!"

Thanks in advance...

I'd appreciate it if the idioms were mainly used in British English. (either formal or informal ones)...thanks again...

How about matchmaker or pander/pandar, though the latter can have negative connotations.

Or if you want a verb, 'to marry someone off': 'Mrs Bennet wanted to marry off all her daughters' (although Jane Austen probably wouldn't have used the idiom - she'd proably have written something like 'see her daugthers settled';-))

Many thanks to the respectable posters...
