[Vocabulary] Looking for a word to describe someone who's able to make good judgment by himself

I'm looking for an proper adjective to describe someone's character of being able to make good judgment by himself, not depending on others. Judgmental came to my mind in the first place, but it's not what I'm looking for since it's kind of a disapproval word. Being a non-native speaker, I'm have no idea what word can fit my need here.

Of course, native speakers may have some more appropriate words for this context.
