[Grammar] Look out the window/ Look out of the window

Do 'look out the window' and 'look out of the window' mean the same? Are they used interchangeably?
 
In BrE, only "Look out of the window" is correct.
 
Both work in AmE, although I prefer the first version without the preposition.
 
I would say that both work in BrE. In fact, I usually say "I looked out the window and saw ...".
 
Obviously both work for some BrE speakers.
