Sometimes I have heard a commentator say "Liverpool get us underway at Anfield." Why is there the word "us" in the middle of the sentence? It sounds unsual to me. "Liverpool get underway" would be more natural.

You could say ‘Liverpool get the match underway’, but the original is clear enough anyway.

It helps the listener feel connected to the events. It's the same as commentators at the start of a motor racing event saying "And we're off!" Obviously, "we" aren't driving!
