Hello,
The singular form of the word "note" is "note" and the plural one is "notes."
I was wondering what is the singular form of the word "jottings." Is is correct to use "jot" or "a jot"?

Thank you.

If you remove the 's', you get the singular form, jotting.

Where did you see or hear this word, Zoli?

I heard it in a movie if I remember correctly. Is it a slangy word?
I want to create a file on my computer named "jottings.txt" which contains relatively short notes that I'm not willing to keep for long.
I was also thinking in using "scratchpad.txt". I'm not sure about that word.

I have a "notes.txt" as well but those are longer notes that are meant to be kept.

I'm pretty sure they'll stay there until you delete them regardless.

You can use "jottings" if you want. It relies on you remembering that they're the ones you don't need to keep for very long, though. Why not make the file names a bit more explicit, such "Temporarynotes" and "Notestokeep"?

Sorry for bothering you but what do you think about the word "scratchpad"? Would that work in the context I need it? I mean to store temporary notes.

It means nothing to me.
