Jenny was reading a storybook to her daughter _______. (Choose the wrong option.)
(A) then (B) at twenty after four (C) at that time (D) last night
[Kang Xuan, Taiwan]

The answer to the above question is D.

Is the sentence "Jenny was reading a storybook to her daughter last night." really not acceptable to native speakers?

The past continuous tense is used to refer to a specific time in the past. Specific is quite relative but I guess option D is the least specific among the four answers. C probably follows from a time stated in a preceding text.

No, that is entirely acceptable, but your full stop is wrong.

Sitifan,

Put the book down and slowly back away. Do not return to the book.
